The Humane Society has many programs that have developed over the years to meet the needs of the people and animals in, not only New Jersey, but in many other states including Virginia, New York, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Several of these programs were the first ones in New Jersey.
These programs include:
o Animal Adoption Shelter
o Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic
o Mobile Spay Neuter Clinic
o Full Service Veterinary Hospital
o Shelter Outreach Program
o Shelter Mentor Program
o Junior and Adult Volunteer Programs
o Jessie's Fund Financial Aid for veterinary care
o Micro-chip Clinics
o Dog Training and Behavioral Counseling
o A. C. Boardwalk Trap Neuter Return cat program
The Humane Society AC has changed from being just a place to surrender animals, to a place where people in the community can go for help with their pets. I strongly believe, in many cases, the pet is often better off staying with the family it knows, than be placed into unfamiliar surroundings. Often their owners need guidance, education, financial aid, or help with veterinary care to be able to provide the right home. Our shelter operates as an open door shelter.
We maintain a no-kill philosophy by not placing any time limits on any of our animals. Our shelter does health and temperament screenings on our animals. Adoptable, healthy animals can stay as long as it takes to find them the right home. Animals that are un-adoptable for health, age, or temperament reasons are humanely euthanized with kindness and respect. Many animals placed come to us from shelters throughout the country.
I am very proud of the many achievements of the Humane Society of Atlantic County. All of this work is made possible by our dedicated members, volunteers, and staff. Everyone is welcome to be a part of our team!
Sincerely,
Steven J. Dash
Executive Director
